I'm not eating this...

Can some one PLEASE tell me how to make poached eggs? The cookbook's method doesn't work. I used vinegar and everything. I've tried it twice now. Help! I want eggs, not primordial soup.

  1. The key is separating the egg from the water. Place a small (non-plastic) cup or bowl in a frying pan filled with water. The water shouldn't be higher than the top of the cup. Put a little butter in the cup and once it melts, add an egg. Simmering is best. You can cover the pan for faster cooking. Bon Appetit!

  2. Your photo shows a method better suited for making egg drop soup.

  3. Oh dear, re-reading my post, I feel the need to say the water should be outside the cup and not in it :)

  5. i'm with anonymous. that is way too involved a process to make eggs. eggs is like...a 3 minute affair not a morning event. Unless of course you're breakfasting or brunching with the Duke of Holland, then certain liberties may be taken.

    i say good day.

  6. I'm with the latter two here... Poached eggs are a waste of time. Only a cook serving royalty should be forced to make them. And only someone breakfasting with the same shoudl be eating them. It's not a breafast egg. It's just a complicated way to eat an egg which takes way too much time for us working folks.

  7. I think you need to post something new so as to push that photo down a bit further. I'm getting queasy every time I visit your blog. :P

  8. Do you realize how few people actually try to cook something without knowing how? Such bravery deserves a proper nod in Sir Galen's direction. I felt so inspired by his culinary aspirations. So inspired, I actually cooked poached eggs for breakfast. Quite delicious. Next, I say we try flaming desserts.

  9. You were inspired too Amber? That's shocking! I also recieved inspiration from his post and decided to try my skills in the kitchen. Although I skipped breakfast and went straight to desserts. Tastier that way. Hey and you can sleep longer if you only eat desserts!

  10. amber, amber, amber you only encourage him in this startling behavior of the poaches and poaching of eggs and products of chicken.

Now what III like to do is go to the counter and say

    "two scoops. eggs"

and then i eat them and wish they tasted like eggs.

sooooo, what is my position here? um...we can just declare galen, amber, edie or anyone else making fancy eggs royalty thereby justifying their actions and chalking it all up to eccentricity/"courage".
